Texas's sales-tax holiday falls right in the middle of the month, and Downtown Arlington's boutiques — Donna's Gift Closet, The Mosaic Market, Wondrous Works Gift Shop, Commodities, Stash VHS, and Deep Dive Vintage among them — are all within walking distance of each other. That means you can knock out back-to-school shopping without moving your car between stops, and every one of those stores is air-conditioned.

Pair the shopping with indoor cooling breaks: grab a milk tea at Rocketbelly or Kung Fu Tea, Italian ice at Rita's Italian Ice & Frozen Custard, or a coffee at Arlington Coffee Roasters or Arwa Yemeni Coffee.
